Free at last

The Americans were enraged by the bombing of Pearl Harbour, and on August 6, 1945, they released an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, killing 66000 people. 3 days later, the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.
The Japanese surrendered and the British returned to Singapore. But the war had shown the citizens that the British were not invincible as they once thought.

Hah! How the POWs rejoiced! They were free at last! Their hearts were full of happiness, overflowing of joy, ... and a sense of vengeance. After 3 years of living in cruelty, imagine how much they would have wanted to get back at the Japanese.
Luckily, they did not have to wait long.
The Japanese quickly laid down their arms and they assumed their new roles as POWs. Now it was their turn to suffer.

The Japanese marching to their detention barracks.

The Japanese were prosecuted and over a hundred were executed or jailed for devastating crimes they committed.
On August 31, 1945, the Japanese withdrew from Changi Gaol. Luckily for them, they experienced torture for only 2 weeks.

Ah...
Peace, at last.
