The Spirit of Resilience

Life goes on...
For the POWs.
Even though they were treated like slaves, they had the motivation to carry on with everyday life.
Yard D, where church services were held.

Robbed of their dignity in themselves, they could only hope for liberation from the invaders even as they struggled to get used to the very harsh conditions in what they thought would be their permanent home.
Squeezed more than a fifteenfold into the campsite, every one of the captives had little space for themselves, arguing for space which they could call their own private corner.
After all, it would be their private corner for a long, long while.

More problems arose.
Even worse than the Japanese torture itself, were bed bugs. The tiny critters robbed the POWs of sleep, leaving them less of the meager energy they had to sustain through the next doomsday.
The POWs experimented with different solutions to rid their bed of the bloodthristy buggers.
